What the $90 a month actually covers
Everybody who sells websites has a monthly fee, and almost nobody says what it is for. Here is mine, line by line, so you can compare it to whatever you are paying now or being quoted.
Hosting
The site has to live on a server somewhere, and that server has to be fast, because Google measures how quickly your pages load on a phone and so do your customers. I pay for that and I keep an eye on it. You never see a hosting bill, a renewal notice or a "your plan has changed" email.
Security and the certificate
The padlock in the browser comes from a certificate that expires and has to be renewed. When it lapses, browsers show a red warning page and customers leave. Mine renew on schedule. The sites I build are plain HTML and CSS, which also means there is no WordPress, no plugins and no database to patch, so there is far less to break or to hack in the first place.
Backups
Copies of the site, kept off the server, so that if anything ever goes wrong it comes back the same day.
Small changes, whenever you need them
This is the part people undervalue until they need it. New hours for the holidays. A photo of the truck you just wrapped. A service you added or dropped. A price that went up. Call or text, and it is done, usually the same day, and there is no ticket system and no per-change invoice. If you have ever paid $75 to have someone change a phone number on a website, you know why this matters.
The upkeep you do not see
Domain renewals handled and reminders passed to you if the domain is in your name (it should be, and with me it is). Keeping your Google Business Profile and the site saying the same thing. Checking that the contact form still delivers and the phone links still dial. Small things, done regularly, so you never think about them.
A real person who answers
When you call the number on the site, you get me, not a help desk. That is a feature, and it is priced into the $90.
What the $90 does not cover: bigger work like new pages, an online store, booking or a photo gallery. Those get a plain quote before anything starts, every time. Most customers never need them. When they do, they are additions to a site that already works, not a rebuild.
Cancel anytime, and you keep everything
There is no contract. Stop whenever you like, and I hand you the site files and your domain goes with you. If a monthly fee anywhere else comes with a long agreement or a domain held in the company's name, that is the fee to be wary of, whatever the number. How the $90 compares to the alternatives is here.
